Doug Pils
Director of Student Media
Douglas Pils joined the Department of Student Media at Baylor University in August 2023 as its director. He’s part of a full-time staff of four who advise and mentor a staff of about 60 students who produce, market and sell advertising for the Lariat newspaper and digital product at baylorlariat.com, the LTVN broadcast team, Roundup yearbook and Focus magazine.
Before arriving at Baylor, Pils spent nine years at Texas A&M University running the Student Media Department. He advised The Battalion newspaper, which includes its website thebatt.com and Maroon Life magazine, and the Aggieland yearbook.
He spent nine and a half years at the San Antonio Express-News from 2005 to 2014, working as a copy editor, assistant sports editor and sports editor. He left not long after the Spurs won their fifth NBA title in 2014.
Pils also worked for Newsday, the Associated Press, The Dallas Morning News, Arlington Morning News, Corpus Christi Caller-Times, Waco Tribune-Herald and New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung.
A native of Waxahachie, Texas, he has degrees in journalism and economics from Texas A&M and a masters in journalism from the University of North Texas. Doug and his wife, Honny, live in Wheelock and they have two sons, Jensen and Nash, and one daughter, Ayla.
